We who enjoy the impressive tradition of music and worship owe a debt of gratitude to those who have left us this priceless legacy. Without the Organ, the legacy is incomplete.
We envision a completely new and integrated instrument specifically designed for our particular liturgical and recital requirements. We do not seek the largest or most extravagant instrument - but one of the highest quality.
In style we favour the tradition of the great European tracker-action instruments. It will have the flexibility necessary for choral and congregational accompaniment and the ability to perform all the great organ repertoire. Many such instruments continue to flourish after several hundred years and we can reasonably expect our new organ to serve us for centuries. It will help to bring about a renewal in our worship and outreach.
We intend to provide this musical legacy for present and future generations and to benefit the whole community.
Once the organ has been replaced, this perpetual fund will preserve and enhance the music ministry. We contemplate a variety of initiatives and musical programs for the future. Among the possibilities: workshops and master classes for singers and instrumentalists; the creation of Organ and Choral Scholarships to provide professional training to young church musicians and music programs for the children at the Cathedral School. This fund could also provide for the upkeep of our music library, staff in the music ministry and the instrumentalists who play at our festival services.
